Will the red panda live or die?
Will the Red Panda live or die?
In class for the past three weeks in population class we have been learning about different species and where they live and thrive. We also learned about the evolution of animals and living things and the stages it goes through. For math we learned how to use the mean, median, mode, maximum, minimum, range, All of the quartiles, standard deviation and box and whisker plots. For this action project we had to choose a species and then take it out of its natural habitat and place into a habitat it would not usually live. We where then told to pick up to 20 different species and then choose 3 that you think would end up surviving in that habitat.
Red Panda's habitat
The red panda is usually found in forest habitats and in the mountains of Nepal and northern Myanmar. There scientific name is Ailurus fulgens. The red pandas are used to a climate of 50-70 degree weather. They usually eat plants, bamboo and fruit. They can live for up to 12 to 14 years in
there natural habitat. Snow leopards and Martens are the only real predators of the red pandas which means there quite lucky. These red pandas are a dwarfed black and white panda and they typically
grow to the size of a house cat. They have tails as long as 18 inches and they use them to wraparound blankets in the chilly mountain heights. The red panda shares the giant pandas rainy high altitude and forest habitat.
In my scenario the temperature will increase by 5 degrees. This can mean a lot things for these animals like no more consistent rainfall And not a lot of droughts. All of the trees and bamboo and fruits that the red pandas are know to eat may decrease because of the little to no rain. The hot seasons will be much longer for them so there will be no time for the plants and bamboo to grow
back.
I think there’s are good and bad things about this environment for the red pandas. Depending on what features you have you might survive this occasion. They wont start dying off immediately but over
the years those who are built for will survive and the others will die off. Some will starve because of the lack of greenery or others might overheat because of the increase in the weather and some might die off for unknown reasons. Others might be smart enough to move to a different location to thrive
in a place more there style.

These are some of the things that allowed the red pandas to live in their habitat
- Pseudo thumb- this allows them to hold on and climb trees easily
- Omnivore- This is an advantage because if one or the other runs out than they can eat the other
- Glandular sacs- they use this to mark there territory
- Furr- they use this to keep warm in the cold mountains of Nepal
Here are some things that could happen in the new environment
- The red pandas might over heat because of there fur
- Since they rely on rain for water they might be dehydrated
- The rain would probably almost immediately stop
