Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer!

This semester in our STEAM we learned about diseases and how they affect someone’s body. We also learned about all the different types of diseases and how they function/what they do. We learned about geo economics, geography and transmission. For our action project we had to conduct an interview with someone who has experienced a disease and then we had to take their information and make it into a story. For my action project I chose breast cancer and I analyzed someone for information.

One of the most common diseases is breast cancer. There are three symptoms for Chase’s disease which are lumps in the breast, breast and nipple pains and nipple discharge.  Chase’s treatment was chemotherapy. During this treatment, Chase went through something called Alopecia which is a major loss of hair because of the chemotherapy. Amenorrhea is also something that Chase went through which is the absence or loss of the menstrual cycle.  Chase also went through a Anti-carcinogenic which is when they use a medication to stop the cells from rapidly growing.

Chase was 27 years old and she was always feeling lumps in her breast but she never knew why she was feeling this. Breast cancer was genetic for her her mother died from it and her grandparents died from it to. At first she just ignored it but then she had a liquid leaking from her breast and sharp pains in her breast.  She finally went to the doctor and they said she had breast cancer and that it was evident because it was genetic and that she’s had it for a long time. After this she went into chemotherapy because the doctors said that would be the best option for her at this point.

“ It was an experience I’ll never forget. This is what Chase said in the interview. She said this because it took a long time for them to get rid of the cells that wouldn’t stop growing. She is alive now, but she was very surprised because she came for treatment later on in her stages. The disease effected her after it was over she currently has no breast and she had scars left were she yes to have breast and her hair is much shorter than it used to be. Other than that she’s fine and she’s just grateful that she’s alive.
