Black Mystic Rain Water Collector

Rain Water Catcher!

This term I was in Biomimicry which is when people mimic nature. This is basically when people take ideas from nature to use for human products that could be useful. This unit we studied plants and we talked about all the different kinds of plants and how you can make designs from them to help with the human world. We also talked about the process in which trees and plants get water and what makes their leaves green. A couple of weeks ago we went on a field experience to a company called interface to learn about how they are creating carpets and rugs based on nature's designs. We also learned how they got these ideas and what specific things from nature influenced them. Then later that week we went on another FE at the Lincoln Park Conservatory. We studied plants and learned about the Fibonacci sequence and how to properly draw our sketches. This action project that I have prepared for you is a plant that I chose called the Cryptanthus or better known as the black mystic. I designed a rain water collector based on the black mystic because the black mystic plant is shaped like a funnel and it collects water to absorb. In my design the rain falls and the tub catches the water, filters it and uses it for fuel.
